The Guest Nest :: Tania Marie from Scandi Coast Home

Has a month gone by already? It only feels like yesterday that we were sticky beaking through the lovely Louisa’s nest. So here we are then, the end of August and my, are you in for a treat today!

OK then, well go grab yourself a cuppa, pop yourself into a comfy chair and enjoy this gorgeous Scandi Coast Home experience.

This month’s Guest Nest is all about scandi style and the coast.  Tania Marie, the owner of this gorgeous, gorgeous nest, is a girl with creative style and flare. Her passion for all things scandi and coastal will be very obvious as we meander through her lovely nest. Tania is also a blogger and you can visit her place {after you’ve checked out The Guest Nest, of course} over here. Please tell her hi from me.

You ready for some Guest Nest sticky beaking?

OK, well over to you lovely Tania

………………………

Who lives in your nest?

I live with my Husband, my 11 year old Son, my 9 year old Daughter and Sooty the Cat.

How long have you lived there?
We live in a little white weatherboard house which we built nearly 3 years ago.

What made you move to this nest?

I think it was a combination of enthusiasm and ignorance. We were looking for another house to renovate and instead we found this empty suburban block. It had never been built on so we didn’t have to knock anything down. I wouldn’t build again but I’m so glad we did. I’m grateful we didn’t have to live through another renovation. The house only took 14 weeks to build which was great as I’m not known for patience.

Could you show us around your nest?

We built our house to be big enough for our kids to live here as long as they need to, but not so big that we have to downsize later. We love our house and want to stay here. It’s been called the Tardis because it looks quite small from the front but opens up to some surprisingly spacious rooms. We only built what we needed and it suits us perfectly.

What is it that you love most about living in your nest?

I love that it’s decorated with mostly second hand furniture and items which I’ve collected since we’ve been here. Nothing really matches and yet it all seems to work. I’ve found bits and pieces at op shops, on ebay and even on the side of the road. I like the mismatched and casual vibe we have going on. We have furnished our home in a way that we can afford, helped charities and the environment. I have quite the reputation for seeing potential where others don’t let me tell you.

Can you tell us a bit about your favourite room?

I think I have a few favourites. I love the dining room because it has a David Tubridge Coral Pendant Light (my big splurge) above a simple Scandi style Ikea dining table which I fould on ebay and painted in Dulux Natural White Aquanamel. The chairs were a lucky find as well. They are Wishbone chairs which I found for $50 dollars each (I know right. Amazing).

Possibly my absolute favourite room would be the kitchen because it’s so big and has a walk in pantry. I display my crazy Scandi patterned ceramics in there.

How about your favourite feathering thing?

My favourite feathering thing would have to be rearranging all my bits and pieces, creating gallery walls and my magazine collection. I have a huge wall of bookshelves in the entryway for all of my interiors books which I really love as well.

Could you show us where you spend most of your time blogging?

I spend most of my time blogging on my laptop in the family room where it’s warm.

Where is the one place in your nest {inside or out} that you feel the most cosy and relaxed?

Probably in a corner of the family room where I display all of my favourite things on floating shelves. I have a reading lamp there as well for cosy night time reading or blogging.

How does your love of all things Coastal influence your nest making?

I love decorating in a Coastal style because it’s so casual and informal. I decorate with lots of white, natural textures and accent colours which range from Navy Blue, Aqua, Teal and Sea Green. The Coastal style is very forgiving when it comes to vintage items......the more worn and loved the better......white paint can make most vintage finds look great.

Thanks so much Kim for having me over to visit your beautiful Nest...... It’s been such a pleasure. Tania xx

........................................................................

Ahem, I think the pleasure has all been ours, Tania.

Thank you so much for allowing us to roam around your nest and sticky beak away. What a lovely, lovely nest you have made. I feel so inspired right now to add some hints of sea blue into my new nest.

So what did you all think of Tania’s gorgeous Scandi Coast nest?

Please share here and then pop on over and say hi to Tania at Scandi Coast Home, she loves visitors:)

I wonder who next month’s Guest Nest will be?

Happy end of winter!

Nest in the Vines :: Walls & Ceilings Painted!

I know it’s been a long time since I’ve given you a Nest in the Vines update. Too long. But I’ve really had not much to share as all I’ve been doing is p..a..i..n..t..i..n..g. Yes, a long and boring process amongst coughing fits and breathing trouble but I am excited to announce that all of the walls and ceilings in the new nest are done! {and so is my flu} Yah!

Unfortunately I am not out of the painting neck of the woods just yet. I still have window trims and doors to paint on the inside and some trims and doors and the verandah on the outside but I do feel like a weight has been lifted off my very sore shoulders {sorry Dad, I’m whinging again;)}and I’m now able to see through the forest of this build to the light that is the end of it all. Phew.

OK, I’ll show you the results but please don’t look too closely. It’s a bit of a shoddy job but thankfully having everything in the same colour does help keep your eye away  from the drippy, rough bits. I hope so, anyway. Oh and the photos are not the best either….. sorry.

I didn’t miss bits up there. That’s where the kitchen’s going:)

Loving the square set as much as I loved my pretty plaster cornices in my purple nest.

This is Lew’s room. Yep, it has two black walls. He loves them and so do I. The only colour {OK, black’s not a colour but you know what I mean} in this nest in the vines so far. It was so lovely to put something other than white on the walls.

That painting was a huge job. Have I mentioned that? ;) {That was for you, Dad xx} It certainly had it’s difficulties too like when I ran out of paint on the final coat and final patch of ceiling in the main living space.  I got some more paint soon after but it looked totally different after the rest of the ceiling had dried. I ended up having to paint the whole thing again! A fourth coat. Agh! I wasn’t impressed and neither was my neck. I almost ran out of paint again. Thankfully I made it last the distance but the last 30 minutes of painting was not without heart palpitating anxiety, that’s for sure.

There are drips in quite a few places but I’m hoping it all adds to the character of the place. Who am I kidding? Anyway, it saved us about $6000 so I think the drips have all been worth it.

Ian, the builder, has been away for a little while and has given me plenty of space and time to paint. He’s back now and waiting on the tiler to turn up. Hopefully that will happen any day now and then next week the kitchen should arrive. The lights are being ordered as we speak and the bathroom stuff has all arrived, I just need to pick it up, hopefully today.

At the moment I’m agonising over a stove. At my budget there’s not a lot of options and when you go to the product reviews they don’t seem to paint a good picture on anything at all especially the brands at the lower end of the market. Oh, except Miele, which I would sooo love but can’t afford. Are those product reviews only done by bitter people who have had bad luck with their appliances? Does anyone with anything good to say ever leave a review?

Anyway, that’s where we’re at at this new Nest in the Vines. I hope to be able to show you some completed bathroom tiling very soon.

Lemon Squeeze …

Everyday since my latest bout of sickness I’ve been sipping on these home grown lemons freshly squeezed into a glass of water.

DSCF2811

I ran out of the golden nectar  so yesterday I grabbed some more lemons from the bowls full that I have scattered around this teeny, tiny studio, and made some more lemon squeeze.

And I bottled it.

And then sipped it.

It’s become my latest addiction. First healthy one in a while;)

There sure does seem to be an abundance of these golden treasures this winter.

Is it just in my neck of the woods or have lemon trees everywhere had a wonderfully healthy and happy season?

Fires and Potatoes in their Jackets …

So, you take a pile of wood that you find by the river.

And you collect some and pop it into a cardboard box.

You bring it home and light the fire pit your clever Dad made you.

You get some potatoes, wrap them in foil and pop them into the fire you’ve just lit.

You devour hot, buttery, sour cream filled potatoes in their jackets with your family.

And then you have icecream in wafers for dessert. Followed by hot chocolates.

And of course you toast some marshmallows on the fire before it goes out.

And you talk about shooting stars and making wishes and the Southern Cross with your niece in the crisp night air by the warm fire.

That’s what we did on a Monday evening.

How about you?
