Tea & Toast Meets Nest in the Vines with a Help Plea!

Tea & Toast time again …. but today there’s a little sneaky difference. I need help!!!!!

Yes, interior decorating types may find it easy {OK, relatively easy} helping other people feather their nests but when it comes to their own new build nests these interior decorating types need  help too! Well, I do at least.

So, what I wanted to do today is take you on a meander through my indecisiveness feathering and nesting ideas for this new nest and get your opinions on what you think I should choose. Yep, I do have an ulterior motive today but I’m sooo hoping  that you’ll be OK with that. You are, aren’t you?

Before we begin I thought I should let you know that I have found this build so much more difficult than when I built the purple nest. The obvious difference this time round is, of course, budget. A very, VERY tight budget. It’s all about downsizing debt. So of course it’s going to be a little more tricky finding things that not only look great but also fit within the budget restrictions. But there’s more to it than just that. My tastes have changed a little over the years along with my need to become a more practical person. So I’m finding myself battling against the need to have something purely for aesthetic reasons over the need to be more comfortable and way less anal.

My belfast sink is a perfect example. In the purple nest I had a beautiful, much treasured white ceramic {fire clay} double sink. It was huge and lovely and looked gorgeous in my kitchen. But man oh man did it cause me grief. I was continually worried about it getting scratched or chipped from washing up big trays etc and even having other people washing up in it would cause me anxiety {only sometimes…I promise}. Petty, I know. Anal, I know. Ridiculous, I know. But a fact none-the-less. So for this next nest I made a very early on decision to go for a stainless steel sink. A big compromise because I really, really love those belfast sinks and even now I fight the desire to have one over the practical stuff that I know I need in my life.

That’s just a little example of what I’m going through with this build. As well as trying to get my head around the taste changes I’ve had – I’m more drawn to an eclectic look this time around rather than being quite so matchy-matchy like before. Again, a practical based decision. It’s very hard to live in a house where everything has to match. Very hard when you have OCD tendencies like I do and much harder for others who live there to put up with.

Bla bla bla over and out! Let’s go treasure hunting for me today. It’s bathrooms. Please, please, please tell me what you really think. I really, really, really need you to share. I need help and I have limited time to make some of these big decisions. We are talking a matter of days!! Agh!!!

So, let’s start with the bathroom today.

Here’s my thinking first. I want lots of white in the bathroom. White bath, white walls, white vanity thingy, white wall tiles. But I’m stumped on the floor. I always thought I would have black and white floors in this next nest. I’ve loved black and white floors for a really, really long time. But now I’m worried that  I’m a little over them. That worries me as now I’m really not sure what to have and I really only have about one or two more days before I’m forced to make my final decision. I’m loving teeny hexagonal tiles on the floor but they are way out of my budget. I’m also loving tiny white or biscuit coloured {more practical but will it spoil the white look for me?} mosaics on the floor. Practically speaking though, I know that all that extra grout to clean won’t be my idea of fun. So I’m stuck.

Please help!!! …

Bathroom Floor Options:

1). Black and white floors

2). Hexagonal or honeycomb tiles {out of budget me thinks}

3). Mosaics

4) Stoney, more natural look

OK, so now let’s look at vanities.

Vanity Options:

1). Chrome stand with white basin {probably out of my budget}

2). Wall mounted basin with chrome bottle trap

Phoenix Qube Wall Hung Basin Including Bottle Trap

3). Good old fashioned enamel pedestal basin

Last but not least, shower taps.

1). Taps with shower rose separate.

2). Taps and rose with chrome external fittings.

OK, well that’s the bathroom meander and dilemma.

What do you think? Honestly. Cast your votes and leave a comment – I’m counting on your feathering and nesting help. Today!!!!

Happy Tuesday!

Hi Kim,
I had the same problem when we built our house. I really got stumped on the bathrooms and I really had a very tight budget. I ended up doing a light biscuit colour on the floors and plain white rectangular wall tiles laid horizontally with a feature wall of white mosaics. I love the mosaics because they are white but they give a textured look......simple and clean!
Have a great day,
Tania xx

Poor you! Decisions, decisions!
I have black and white checkerboard tiles in my bathroom. Plus side - very inexpensive and look adorably "country". Down side - horrible to keep clean!!!! I swear I can just clean them and the minute someone walks in they will have specks on them again. I'm really loving the stoney/natural tiles in your pics.

Those stone natural coloured tiles look nice. Love the classic look of the black and white! I am Penny's Mum and I love her country bathroom which is not all fitted and matchy-matchy. She has a pedestal basin and claw foot bath which is practical as well as pretty.
Personally, I am not keen on tiny little handbasins that you can hardly fit your hands in!
My only advice on taps is to get the kind with lever handles. So good when you get older and arthritic, but practical really for anyone!
Good luck with it all. Can't wait to see what you choose.

Stony tiles is my pick and i will probably have those too. My fav basin us the first one and I can't see the showers too well on my phone but agree get taps that old people can turn.

Oh decisions! I love all your choices but for me personally I would end up choosing black and white tiles for the floor (although I do love the stoney ones), old fashioned pedestal and that last shower fittings picture. Good luck with your decision :)
