Tea & Toast :: Study Love

Woops! Sorry I’m so late today with Tea & Toast. And a double sorry for missing last week. It flew by … just like that.

This Tea & Toast is for my lovely friend and blogger, Julie {Hi Julie!}. She posted a photo of her newly de-cluttered living room space the other week and wanted some inspiration for her little study nook that lives within her living room space.

So, Julie, and anyone else who needs a little wintery study inspiration {especially those of you who blog study/work in your living room}, this is for you ….

Hahahaha! Just tricking!! That sends shivers down my neat-freak obsessive spine.

OK, onto some loveliness now…

For me, one of the most important thing my study space needs to have is natural light. A window right in front of the desk would be my perfect option but if I couldn’t have that I’d make sure that I was as close to a window as possible. Natural light does something to the motivational part of the brain. I haven’t googled that so please don’t send lots of “you’re wrong’ comments, but I’m certain that has to be true. Do you feel motivated to study or write in a dark, dingy space or in a light filled one? There’s my research right there;) No googling required.

I think it’s also vital to have pretty things surrounding you and your space. It might be pretty stationary, lovely tins filled with freshly sharpened pencils, a vase of flowers, gorgeous journals or a special memento. Something that makes you love to sit down at that spot and enjoy it.

Noticeboards are a great addition to your study space too. Not only can they become a pretty feature but they are also a practical way of storing memos, letters, bills and to do lists so they are within easy reach and remembrance level {ie: you’re staring right at them!}.

And don’t you find that without good storage nearby your  desk ends up with piles of papers and books and things you might just need in a minny. I know mine does. How about some of these ideas for inspiration and help getting organised?

your study space should be somewhere that beckons you to come and sit and pick up that pencil {or tap on that keyboard} and enjoy what you’re doing.

I so hope you got some study space inspiration today. Especially you, Julie:)

I know I did.

Hey, and while your here, I was wondering if you’ve got any Tea & Toast requests for me?

What is it that you’d like to see and meander through?

Please leave me a comment and let me know.

Happy Tuesday!

A place to sit and write and create and just be is so important. x

These spaces are all so beautiful! I love to sit in natural light, even take my desk out and work in the garden. Natural light is so vibrant and lifts me up, regardless of the start of my day...And if there is sunshine too, well then it is just perfect. There is actually a disorder called "Seasonal affecting disorder" that says, the humans get depressed if they are constantly in dark. So during the wintertime, in certain countries where one might be in daylight (grey one at that) just for 5-8 hours a day is likely to get depression! And the opposite, during summer.

But you are right, one does not need to be an expert to realize it's true :)

Thank you so much for this Kim. I'm definitely inspired. I did get a shock with that first photo though. (LOL) xxoo

Ooo how stunning is the turquoise room with that amazing beaded lightshade!
I'm lucky enough to have my desk facing a big window - I do love it, except in the late arvo - too glarey.
We're adding 2 new decks/verandahs in the near future.....would love to see what you can find for inspiration!

Wow, there is so much to be inspired by here. We have both the kids study space and my sewing table in part of our living area and I am continually frustrated at how messy both spaces get..mine is a lot worse than the kids :) I need to par it right back and more storage definitely wouldn't go astray.

It would be cool to see some kids spaces and maybe storage ideas in some upcoming posts :)

Those were truly inspiring ideas! I particularly love that white and simple space...I so love the comfy chair! But like you, a big window right in front of the desk is still the best option. Oh well...it really depends on each individual's personality and preference. I have a friend who likes his space to be a kinda dark with just a not so bright light. And yes, others prefer a not so in order space...their perception on this is they feel lazy and not in a working/studying mood when they see a very clean and orderly space.:o
