and began planning a new nest and then sold the purple nest

and then bought the block and then built the studio and then moved in ….

I am so very, very thankful and relieved to announce that:

Our new nest has begun!

The first bits of lovely black soil were dug yesterday {and a little bit the day before} and we now have a huge cut out spot for the new nest to sit on. Today should see the final house site all finished and ready for the next stage. It’s been a shock to see how much land has been cut. It so changes the look of everything but, thankfully, my worries about how it’s all going to look in the end are slowly dissipating as I can now visualise the levels. I found it such a difficult thing to picture and agonised over how to cut the land and where and in what proximity to the shed etc etc. My image was a house and garden and shed all on the one level. On paper that works a treat but once you get your head around the fact that houses on slabs have to be on level ground, you soon realise that levels will become a part of your life pretty quick smart. I’m not a ‘slab’ girl at heart. Much more of a piers princess. But slab it is for this nest and so I will do my very, very best to get my head around it and just go with it. Once today’s over and the levels are fully done I’ll be able to move forward.

I have to say, Ian, my builder, has, so far, been wonderful. He’s taken the time to talk with me and work with me about little details that matter to a pedantic like myself. I don’t feel rushed or brushed off by him yet he’s clear and on the ball and assertive in what needs to have a decision made on it and what can take a bit more time. Yesterday we went out in the morning and by the time we got back home at around lunch time the place was all dug up. I was in a little shock but not in a bad way, just a trying-to-get-my-head-around-it way. Ian obviously saw some concern on my face and jumped straight off off the digger to come and chat. I think he thought I might have been worrying. After a quick chat about what they’ll be cutting next he said:

“If you ever see anything you’re not happy with or are worried about please don’t be shy to speak up.”

It’s hard for me to give over responsibility and control. Very hard. But that little statement from Ian has meant that I will be able to let him take the reins {to a point;)} trusting that he’s open to my suggestions and concerns. I like that a lot and I feel like we’re going to have a good working relationship throughout this nest building gig. And I’ll be definitely holding him to that!

Can’t wait to get my vegie garden started! Let the hard work and exhaustion fun begin!

Yah!

It's all starting to fall into place for me now :)
I imagine the next months will be very hectic at your place but how exciting! How long do you expect the build to take Kim?

Hi Kim, thank you for visiting my blog, Heritage Harvest, I must confess, it has been hard to find the time to get back in posting mode! Spring is always so busy and this year we are building a greenhouse. That will be up on the next post soon. I am anxious to explore your blog, it looks very nice!
Thanks again for taking a look, and I invite you to follow along! Marla
