Nest in the Vines :: Our First Night

4th May, 2012

It’s 6:35am and I’m at my computer, sipping tea  and looking out to the beauty that is Mumbulla Mountain. I’m totally disregarding the eastern view which resembles an overgrown junk yard. There are drips falling from the ceiling, well, not really the ceiling as this little shed has none, but the roofy bit where the sarking sits. I’ve had to turn  the heater off, which, by the way, has been heating the place nicely.

Drip, drip, drip. Are we going to be floating in water soon or will the dripping stop now that I’ve turned off the heat and turned the inside of our little shed into an icebox so it nicely matches the outside? Have I got the condensation theory right? Must ring my Dad later on.

But apart from the little drippy issue things have gone relatively smoothly and life in the little shed, so far {after one night} has been nice. The shower works, though it needs more waterproofing and there’s hot water coming out of the kitchen tap now that I’ve installed a new, leak-free spout.

We were still moving stuff out of the rental, finishing off the carpet cleaning and setting up the shed late yesterday afternoon. My lovely Lynda friend and Sarah helped, yet again, to move and set up the beds and bits and pieces. Lew spent some time in the afternoon hanging out with Jake at his place which was a nice break for him from the moving mayhem. When I went to drop Lynda home and pick up Lew, Steve had a beautiful dinner awaiting us all. It was so wonderful not to have to think about cooking anything other than cheese and tomato toasted sandwiches for dinner as shopping has been put on the back burner over the past few days.

OK, I’m cold! The dripping has slowed right down but oh man it’s cold! Must ring my Dad later on.

…. So last night, coming home from a quick and delicious meal at the Racz’s, to our little shed in the light of an almost full moon, was quite special. We managed to set Poppy up in a comfy zone, have showers and pop into bed. I had to do a few trips to the car inbetween and mangaged to capture a teensy bit of the warm glow that was radiating out of our little shed.

The air outside was crisp and end-of-autmny but the inside looked so cosy and inviting. Stepping back inside and closing the front door for the last time felt good. We were safe and dry and warm and we were surrounded by our things, the things that along with us, makes our house, wherever we are, our nest. Our place to curl up, rest and rejuvenate.

Although I didn’t sleep very much last night {that often happens to me in new surroundings} I felt cosy and warm and content.

So now it’s onwards today getting all of our things in some sort of order and, hopefully, having some time to sort out the mess outside and this dripping issue. Oh, and siliconing the bathroom and handing in the rental keys and doing some food shopping and paying some bills and calling Telstra and the electricity people and the gas people and finding a pre-paid wireless thingy for the computer so we can have some internet and, saving the best for last, emptying the toilet. Yum, yum. I bet you wish you were me today.
