Right now I’m at my laptop, in the lounge room. The chandelier is sparkling in the gorgeous amber glow of our Nectre fire – pumping out the heat, permeating our nest with it’s warm air.
This would have to be one of my favourite things about the cooler weather. It’s dark outside. Dark and crisp. Inside the house though there is no hint of the cold or dark. It’s warm and toasty and glowing. I so wished I’d picked up some chocolate and marshmallows to make us each a yummy hot chocolate.
We are snug by the fire, quiet and content. Right now there’s no TV blaring {another thing that I am ever sooooo grateful for!} and all’s calm. There’s something about staring at the orangey embers of a burning fire that ignites a sense of serenity and that all’s-well-with-the-world kind of feeling. Don’t you think?
I’ve always loved it. As a child I remember our fire place. It was made of old bricks and it was the open fire type. We used to sit on the hearth and almost fall into the hot coals. We couldn’t get close enough. Once our jeans heated up though we were off like a rocket…ouch, ouch, ouch! Until we’d cooled off. Then ever so slowly but surely we’d creep back closer to the fire. Closer and closer. Until our jeans….you get the picture.
We used to often have jaffles on a Sunday night for tea. It was easy-tea night, after a big day at Pony Club or a gymkhana or my brother’s football or soccer game. We’d pop in some bread and baked beans and cheese {one of our favourite fillings} and then we’d each place a cast iron jaffle thingy, some round, some square, into the bright burning coals. After a bit of sizzling they’d be cooked and ready to eat. We’d always burn our tongues on the hot baked beans and melted cheese but the experience was so worth it infront of that deliciously toasty fire, our minds drifting off to some far away place as we stared at the dancing, tickling flames, scoffing down our jaffles.
Oh I’m so very, very grateful for the fire in my lounge room.
Do you have a fire? Maybe it’s something else you’re grateful for? Why don’t you pop on over to Maxabella’s and play along with her grateful link up. All you have to do is post about what you’re grateful for this week and then link up over at her lovely blog.
Easy peasey and lots of fun.

All so warm and cosy. You live in a beautiful place. Lovely house. We were thinking of the south coast as a place to settle maybe. But so many things to sort through first.
Enjoy the rest of this blissful weekend.

You have described it perfectly! I don't have a fire now but I do remember the one we had when I was little. Mum used to hang me and my sister's towels on clothes airers in front of the fire and we would do the nudie run from the bath to the fire and dry off there. Ahh, good times.
You'll definitely have to add chocolate and marshmellows to your shopping list!
Oh it just sounds so warm and cozy! And no, I have a new house now and it has heating not a fire :-( Not quite the same is it??
have a great (cozy) weekend

We lit our first fire of the season last night and it was blissful! I adore our open fireplace. We toast marshmallows and have little fireside chats. It's wonderful.
Have a warm and cosy Autumn / Winter, Kim! x
