As if Tucked In wasn’t a special enough treat, Meredith Gaston has also illustrated another wonderful book, written by Monica Trapaga, called: She’s Leaving Home. {Actually, this one came out before Tucked In, last October}.
This book is another whimsical, retro style piece of loveliness. The idea for the book came from Monica’s {yep, Monica from Playschool!!} decision to make a scrapbook of all of the recipes her daughter might want and need for when she fled the nest and went out on her own.
Some heavy duty sticky beaking in google land had me find the lovely connection between Monica and Meredith here. Meredith’s art studio sat right on top of Monica’s lovely vintage shop Reclaim in Summer Hill, Sydney {did you know that Monica Trapaga had a vintage shop? I didn’t!}.

The two M’s became friends and spent lots of time yelling ideas for the book to one another, up and down the stairs.
Here are some samples of Meredith’s beautiful work in She’s Leaving Home…

The result is a lovely, cosy compilation of recipes and other lovely bits and pieces passed down from mother to daughter. It so resonates with me as I’ve been doing this myself since Lewi was in the womb. I so wished my mum had done it for me.
Have you kept a scrapbook/journal for your kids? If so, I’d love to hear about it.
PS Pssst…I hear that Meredith is working on her third book. Can’t wait!

I adore Meredith Gastons work! We are obviously on the same page Kim because I was admiring Monica's cookbook yesterday! I am fortunate to own one of Merediths lovely little watercolours, it is one of my most treasured possessions.

Oh lovely, Amanda. What is the watercolour of? I'd love a photo of it. She's a really lovely girl. I've had a tiny bit of contact with her and she's such a down to earth, humble, personable girl. It makes her artwork even more appealing.

Hi Kim, I loved hearing that she's as sweet as she is talented! Here's a picture from my old blog of my painting. I'd love to own more of her work in the future.

Thanks, Amanda, for sending me that link. It is a gorgeous piece of artwork indeed and you are so lucky to have it. I'd love some too. It is always nice to hear what the real person behind the scenes is like, isn't it?
Do you still have your blog somewhere, Amanda? If so, here's a sneaky little ask from me...any chance I could have a peak at it? Mer used to tell me all about how wonderful it was and then, when I went to actually view it it was gone! No pressure though. I totally get it if you need to put it to bed and leave it there. No harm in asking though, I feel;) xx
