Real Français

The French look has been around for a little while now, though lately it's become quite the in look. Little Eiffel towers and pink and black vintage postcards, antiqued maps of Paris, black and white signs with French cities listed...you know what I mean. I'm into those touches, they're cute and kitchy. But they're not 'real' French.

Another look that's not 'real' French, and one I'm not in love with, is the so called 'French provincial' look. White furniture, sometimes slightly rubbed back. Fresh, new toiled fabric covered reproduction armchairs. New, new, new looking. No rustic. No gouges. No scratches. No 'real'.

It can look OK in the right setting, don't get me wrong. I can appreciate it as an interior design style, but it's so not representative of true French provincial living. It doesn't capture the real vintage French look and I'm often disappointed when I see people have spent thousands of dollars to create a French look, and it ends up being...well, not French at all.

Here's the French feel that I love. It's farm housey and it's vintagey and it's old school France. Enjoy!

Do you like the French look? If so, what is it that you like about it?

Au revoir!
