Unschooling

january 2011 022

We are an unschooling family. Lewi's never been to school. It's legal and it's a really cool way of living.

Basically unschooling is about living life without the confinements of school. Lewi learns in a natural, self-directed way. He is driven by his thirst for knowledge and his passions. It is my role, as his mum and learning facilitator, to provide an interesting and stimulating environment for him to learn in. We have a really great natural learners group that we are a part of and where Lewi has his social needs met. His best friend goes to school and so he gets to hang out with him in the afternoons or on weekends. Lewi also has lots of other friends who go to school and who we catch up with at different times throughout the week. So don't worry, he's not missing out socially:) {I know this is one of the biggest concerns that people have about home schooling}.

I think my favourite thing about unschooling is getting to hang out with Lewi everyday. I learn so much from him, his view on life and his interests. I love the opportunity for constant connection which  unschooling gives us as a family. Issues have to be dealt with on a regular basis to ensure smooth sailing between us all. I could ramble on and on about it and...I do...in my blog. So if you want to know a bit more about our unschooling life, please read my posts and share in our journey with us.

If you ever want to chat about unschooling or you are considering homeschooling for your child then please  email me. I'd love to chat with you about it:)
