Lewi has had a pet axolotyl {Axio} for the past 5 years now. Axio has not been the easiest of pets. He continually goes into anorexic mode and refuses to eat. This is so distressing as a pet owner, especially a 10 year old one. It seems that he is a fussy little critter when it comes to his tank being cleaned. It can look pristine to us but to Axio it's just not good enough. After a clean and a day of relaxing in cleanliness, Axio usually starts eating again. We've also wondered whether he'd like to be in a better, bigger, more natural environment. Well, of course he would! He's a pent up animal!
So, we made the decision to release Axio into the barrel out in the garden. We are a little worried he may not cope with this wild adventurous change to his previous domesticated existence but we hope he will and we hope he can appreciate a more natural axolotyl way of life.
Axio in the icecream container that Lewi used to transport him from his tank to the wild beyond!
He seemed pretty happy when Lewi released him. He still hasn't eaten but hopefully he will very soon.
Enjoy the wild life, Axio x
PS Please don't eat the tadpoles!
