Barns

I have a barn obsession. I love the shape of barns. I've drawn lots of different plans for a barn-style house over the years. The simplicity of this shape is what draws me to them - clean lines, rustic in design. Whenever I see an old barn I get shivers down my spine. I love driving past the ones nearby and dreaming about how wonderful they'd be as converted nests.

There are a couple of stone barns in the valley that I regularly dream about. They are gorgeous! I must get pictures of them and when I do I'll post them here for you all to enjoy.

How cute is this? What a beautiful wood shed.

This American style is gorgeous. I love this red. So traditional for American sheds.

This is a European barn house. Modern, yet barny!

I love this red!

I love corrugated iron. It's so Aussie and rustic. I love it's simplicity and it's industrial feel. It is not pretentious in any way. It's the most honest of cladding:)

What a lovely modern take on the barn! This would be a dream to live in - light filled, spacious, open, taking advantage of aspect. It doesn't lack the charm of yesteryear either but has all the contemporary comforts too.

This is inside a barn house that a once local architect designed for a client in the southern highlands.

So too, this. He has talent!

I love golden timber on silver corrugated iron.

English barn conversion.

Church - barn conversion.

Rustic and lovely. Faded timber and stone....sooooo natural.

I can so see myself in one of these barns, overlooking a beautiful green valley, mountains surrounding, a river not too far away. Dream, dream, dream...

Oh yes. We are kindred spirits. I too am obsessed with barns. Just love those soaring rooflines and the gorgeous weathered exteriors.

Thanks for Rewinding at the Fibro. :-)

LOVE barns too! We have a house at the back of ours that looks exactly like a big, black barn but inside is the most fabulously designed home. Great post!

Another barn lover here! I love the height of the ceilings and the openness and, gee I love that corrugated iron one. Super post :)

There's something about a pointy roof that just makes them look so damn homely and inviting! Having lived in a flat for the past 9 years, I'm about ready for a pointy roof...

I love barns as well; they're a maternal shape, wide-hipped and with a low centre of gravity. They seem to sit well in the ground. And full of rustic charm.
Thank you for the eye candy, makes me want to sit down and watch Grand Designs. :)

Oh that is freaky - I have a barn conversion plan in my head too (not that it will ever happen...just too many misspent evenings watching 'grand designs'!!)

Do you reckon we identify with barns so much from our 'house' drawings as children. They were the type of building that was easy to draw! There is a certain rustic simplicity about them and usually they live in a georgeous rural setting with divine views.

Oh I'd love photos of that barn Baby Mac. Could you sneak around a snap some...? LOL

Yes, yes, yes, Carol! I blogged about this before Christmas in a gingerbread house post about rooflines. That's exactly where I thought my love of barny rooflines came from - my childhood dream house drawings!

Sounds to me like every girl needs a barn;) Oh, and Grand Designs Rules OK...OK?? LOL
